Jennifer Lawrence has dropped out of The Rosie Project, the romantic dramedy being developed by Sony’s Tri-Star Pictures. At the same time, the actress is in early talks to star in Darren Aronofsky’s mystery indie project. It is unclear when that film, which is pulling together financing, would start shooting.

Richard Linklater remains on board to direct Rosie, which is an adaptation of the book by Graeme Simsion and has a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber.

Rosie had been fashioned as a vehicle for Lawrence and was tailored to her voice. The studio will move immediately to recast the role in what is considered a priority.

This is the second project that Lawrence has recently exited. She previously vacated The Glass Castle, a drama at Lionsgate, although she remains involved as a producer.

The actress, who today railed about pay inequality, is also now done with her X-Men contract, having wrapped her third movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, this summer, and has her final Hunger Games movie, Mockingjay — Part 2, opening Nov. 20. After she wraps Passengers, which she is currently shooting for Columbia, her immediate slate appears to be clear.

Perhaps, since she’s been going from movie to movie to movie, a break could be in order.

Lawrence also will be seen starring in David O. Russell’s Joy, which Fox is opening Dec. 25.
