Brad Pitt’s zombie movie has been slated for a sequel, and apparently, “World War Z 2″ has been confirmed by Franchise Herald to be released in late 2015. Not many details about the sequel has been released, although it’s already known that it will be written by Steven Knight and would still be produced and starred by Brad Pitt as the main protagonist, Gerry Lane.
Juan Antonio Bayona, known for the 2004 drama “The Impossible”, is reported to helm thefilm. The rest of the cast is still mere speculation at this time, but there are rumors circulating around that award-winning actress, Jennifer Lawrence, will be in the film alongside Pitt, but there is no confirmation as to what her role is going to be — an alliance, a loveinterest, or something else?
The plot has not even been confirmed yet, so more news regarding the project should arise soon; however, the sequel is expected to take off after the events of the first film. An article from the Independent said, “Plot details for the next World War Z are being kept under wraps but the storyline is expected to continue from where Marc Forster’s movie left off.”
Despite a seemingly good plan for the movie, there is a probability that “World War Z 2” will not be produced by the same company as the original film. According to The Guardian, Paramount Pictures and Brad Pitt’s company, Plan B, will end their relationship after eight years of working together. His new partner is New Regency, so it is likely that the second film will be produced under its banner.
Pitt’s company said in a statement, “There are very few partners in this business who are able to balance artistic integrity with commercial viability. Working hand in hand with New Regency and RatPac, we feel we have found the perfect fit.”
“World War Z 2” is set to be released late in 2015.
